Let me be honest. I spent two weeks putting off registering for FAB online banking because I assumed it would be a headache. I was completely wrong. First Abu Dhabi Bank's digital registration takes under ten minutes if you have the right things ready. And once you are in, your FAB balance enquiry becomes a three-second glance rather than a thirty-minute branch visit.

Overview

What is FAB online banking and why does it matter?

First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB) is the largest bank in the UAE by total assets, formed in 2017 from the merger of First Gulf Bank and National Bank of Abu Dhabi. FAB online banking is the web and mobile platform that lets you manage your account around the clock, anywhere in the world — transfers, bill payments, card management, loan tracking, and real-time FAB balance enquiry without ever setting foot in a branch.

Why this matters: UAE banking hours are typically 8am–2pm on weekdays. Without online banking, you are locked out of your finances for more than 70% of the day. Digital registration fixes that permanently.

Before You Begin

What you need before you register

Showing up to register without these three things will waste your time. Have them ready before you start.

Active FAB debit or credit card

Your card must already be issued and activated. Expired or blocked cards will not work.

Registered UAE mobile number

The number linked to your FAB account at account opening. OTP goes to this number only.

Emirates ID

Required for biometric identity verification during the mobile app registration liveness check.

Important: If your mobile number has changed since account opening, visit any FAB branch first to update it. Registration will fail if the OTP goes to a number you no longer use. The update is free and takes five minutes at the information desk.

Step-by-Step

How to register for FAB online banking

There are two routes. I personally recommend starting on the website for setup, then switching to the app for everyday use.

1

Open your browser and go to www.bankfab.com. Click on the "Online Banking" section in the top navigation.

2

On the login page, select "Register Now."

3

Enter your Customer Identification Number (CID) or your debit/credit card number, along with your card expiry date and the last four digits of your Emirates ID.

4

An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number. Enter it within 90 seconds.

5

Create a strong password — FAB requires at least 8 characters, one number, and one special character. Confirm and click "Activate."

6

You will immediately see your account dashboard with your full account summary. You are done.

Pro Tip

Write your User ID down immediately after registration. FAB sends it only once. Losing it means going through the recovery process, which sometimes requires a branch visit.

1

Download the official FAB Mobile Banking app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

2

Open the app and tap "Register." Enter your debit or credit card number and your card PIN.

3

Scan your Emirates ID front and back when prompted. Hold the card flat on a dark surface with good lighting. Avoid glare from the laminate.

4

Complete the liveness check by positioning your face as directed. This is a one-time biometric step. FAB does not retain facial data permanently.

5

Verify with the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.

6

Set up a six-digit PIN or enable Face ID / fingerprint login. You are now registered and fully logged in.

Pro Tip

If your Emirates ID scan fails three times in a row, restart the app between attempts. The scan engine resets between sessions.

FAB Balance Enquiry

5 official ways to check your FAB balance in 2026

Once registered, a FAB balance enquiry takes seconds. Three of these five methods work even without registration — useful if your account is new.

1
FAB Mobile App
Fastest

Open the app and your available balance shows immediately on the dashboard before you even tap anything. The 2026 update added a "Spending Insights" panel that breaks your balance down by category — genuinely useful for monthly expense tracking.

2
FAB Online Banking Portal
Full View

Log into www.bankfab.com, verify the OTP, and your account summary shows current and available balances side by side. The portal also shows pending transactions — which the ATM does not. This matters when a hotel hold or fuel station pre-authorisation is reducing your spendable balance.

3
SMS Banking to 2121
No Internet Needed

Send the word BAL to 2121 from your registered mobile number. You will receive a reply within seconds showing your primary account balance and last three transactions. For a specific account, type BAL [last 4 digits]. Standard SMS rates apply.

4
ATM Balance Inquiry

FAB operates over 400 ATMs across the UAE. Insert your card, enter your PIN, and select Balance Inquiry. You can view on screen or print a mini statement showing your last five transactions. No charge at FAB ATMs for balance inquiries.

5
Ratibi & Prepaid Card Portal
Ratibi / WPS

For Ratibi salary cards and FAB prepaid card users, visit the Prepaid Card Inquiry page on the FAB website, enter the last two digits of your card number plus your Card ID, and click Go. Your salary balance appears instantly via the Magnati-powered portal. Note: FAB has no WhatsApp banking — any site claiming otherwise is outdated or incorrect.

Common Issues

When registration does not go smoothly

Three problems come up repeatedly. Here is the exact fix for each.

OTP not arriving

Almost always a mobile number mismatch. Your registered number at FAB may differ from your current SIM. Visit a FAB branch with your Emirates ID to update it, or call the FAB helpline on 600 52 5500.

Emirates ID scan failing

Most commonly caused by poor lighting or glare from the laminate on your ID. Try scanning flat on a dark surface in a bright room. Avoid direct sunlight. Restart the app after three failed attempts — the scan engine resets between sessions.

Forgotten User ID

FAB emailed your User ID at registration. Search your inbox for an email from FAB. If missing, use "Forgot User ID" on the login page — it will re-send after OTP verification. Your User ID never changes unless you specifically request it.

Security

What FAB does and what you must do

FAB applies multi-layer security across all online and mobile sessions — 256-bit SSL encryption, OTP per new device login, biometric authentication on the app, and automatic session timeout after five minutes of inactivity.

Never share your OTP with anyone, including callers claiming to be FAB staff. FAB will never call you to ask for an OTP.

Download the app directly from the App Store or Google Play only — never from a third-party link or website.

Enable two-factor authentication in your account settings if not already the default.

Review your account statements every two weeks. Salary credits can take a few hours to reflect in the app even when visible at ATMs.

Deposit protection: Customer deposits held with FAB in the UAE are protected under the UAE Central Bank's deposit protection scheme — a meaningful safety net on eligible accounts worth knowing about.
